How Moving an NFL Team Affects Sports Tourism Part 2

In our last blog, we looked at how moving an NFL team affects the sports tourism in the cities who lose their team. Today, we’ll be doing an analysis of what a new NFL team means for the sports tourism of the cities they’re moving to. Sports Facilities Management has extensive experience in the sports industry, so continue to check our blog for more information and contact us with any question about our services.

Cities Who are Gaining a Team

Los Angeles and Las Vegas are both gaining new NFL teams, so how will their sports tourism be impacted by the move? Los Angeles already has had their first season with the returning Los Angeles Rams, and now the move is official for Las Vegas.

Los Angeles, California and the Rams

First, let’s take a look at Los Angeles. This isn’t exactly their first sports team. In fact, they have 2 NBA teams, 2 NHL teams, 2 MLB teams, an MLS team, and now 2 NFL teams. Yep, the Chargers are making the move from San Diego too. So, with this oversaturation of sports teams, how will the Rams fare? Well, there will no doubt a huge influx of sports tourism when the new extravagant stadium is finished for the 2019 NFL season, but the long-lasting implications are harder to predict. It will really depend on the interest of fans and if the team is good enough to warrant attention. Nevertheless, there will always be sports enthusiasts flocking to Los Angeles, so they shouldn’t have anything to worry about in the foreseeable future.

Las Vegas, NV and the Raiders

Las Vegas is a different situation. Quick, name your favorite sports team in Las Vegas! Having trouble? Well, that’s because Las Vegas has no professional sports team to call their own. This new NFL team is huge for them. A city that already receives a ton of tourism is getting another big ticket attraction to add to their “Reasons to Visit Las Vegas” accolades. To put it quite bluntly, it’s unlikely that Las Vegas will be having trouble with their sports tourism numbers anytime soon.
