How to Choose the RIght Gym Equipment for your Sports Complex
Not all sports complexes cater to the same clientele, endure the same wood-warping humidity, or harsh winter weather, and this makes it difficult to say what, universally, is the most cost-efficient and durable type of flooring. At Sports Facilities Advisory, however, we have seen that certain types of flooring material stand out. Depending on the sports fields you plan on managing, one of the following flooring materials might suit your sports complex.
For Outdoor Soccer, Football, Lacrosse, and Other Sports Played on “Grass”
Our Sports Facilities Advisory team has found that durability, though important, is not the only factor at play in terms of finding the right outdoor flooring material. You have to also consider their potential to injure players and how well they allow players to enjoy the sport they love at your sports complex. You have two real choices here: recycled rubber flooring (track and field flooring) and artificial turf.
Recycled Rubber Flooring
Courts and fields made from recycled rubber flooring are great at absorbing shock, and you can clean them easily. Maintenance is also a breeze, and they typically come installed with natural sloping to help water drain. The do not, however, accurately replicate grass. Soccer players might dislike the way the ball rolls and bounces on recycled rubber, and football players might be more prone to injury after being tackled.
Artificial Turf
With fibers that replicate grass and rubber pellets that simulate dirt, artificial turf looks and feels much closer to natural grass fields than recycled rubber flooring. They come at a bit of a price, and the upkeep takes more than rubber flooring. At Sports Facilities Advisory, we have found that most soccer and football players appreciate the expense.
Indoor Sports Flooring
Most economically viable and efficient sports complexes, like the ones Sports Facilities Advisory has helped design and build, need versatile indoor sports flooring. Your complex will capitalize on athletes playing all different types of sports and participating in a wide range of activities. You will want your flooring to hold up, look good, and perform well.
Rubber Flooring
Use this type of flooring for the track circling your your courts and for your weight rooms. This durable floor can easily handle a dropped dumbell, and it will also go easy on runner’s knees. Plus, it is less expensive than wood flooring and easier to maintain.
Traditional Maple Hardwood
Most basketball courts still come with traditional maple hardwood flooring, but this flooring can cost a lot of money in maintenance. Consider this flooring if your sports complex will focus primarily on basketball, and you will attract serious players.
Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl has become more and more popular over the last few years. It functions well for basketball, volleyball, futsal, and other indoor sports. It will last longer than maple hardwood flooring, but it still absorbs shock and helps keep injuries to a minimum.
