The city of Cape Coral, Florida, has officially opened its rebranded racquet sports facility called The Courts, Cape Coral.

The venue, which had a grand opening on February 22, includes tennis, pickleball and more. The event featured an open house, live programming and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Sports Facilities Companies will manage and operate the facility.

The Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center, a 140,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility set to open in 2025, announced Tony Thiry as its newly appointed general manager. Thiry brings decades of experience in facility operations and sports management.

Thiry’s career highlights include his role as vice president of operations at Scheels Arena and Farmers Union Insurance Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Since stepping into the arena industry in 2017, he has led operational transformations, created cost-saving measures, and fostered partnerships to support local sports and youth development. He is also a certified ice rink manager and USA Hockey Level 4 coach.

The Sports Facilities Companies has been selected to operate Destination KP, a new youth sports venue located on Long Island, New York, withTim O’Connell appointed as general manager.

O’Connell has more than 25 years of experience in sports and recreation management, including his tenure as a deputy commissioner of parks and recreation in Nassau County. At Destination KP he will oversee operations, revenue growth and building a customer base for the sports destination.

While many families have been spending these past couple of snow days indoors, some are turning to recreational options like the BluHawk sports park in Overland Park to keep their children busy.

This past weekend’s blizzard forced families throughout the KC metro to stay indoors over the past few days. Some families may choose to make a snowman or go sledding, but the BluHawk sports park was packed on Tuesday with families who are having fun indoors without having to go far.

The City of Mattoon is ready to show off its new sports facility, as Friday was the grand opening of the Emerald Acres $30 million fieldhouse complex.

Now that phase one is completed, the community stopped by for refreshments and a tour. It’s been a long time coming, and now people in Mattoon are excited to see the Emerald Acres Sports Connection building come to life.

Wintrust Sports Complex in Bedford Park, Ill., will host the 2025 USA Judo Junior Olympic National and International Championships, set to take place from June 20-22, 2025. This event will bring together the nation’s top young judo athletes, ages 5 to 20, to compete in a series of intense matches as they strive for national titles and showcase their skills on the path to future Olympic competitions.

Almost a year since city leaders voted to buy out the former operator of the Virginia Beach Sports Center the city has now announced the venue’s new operator.

Last year city leaders voted to end the city’s 10-year agreement with Eastern Sports Management due to money loss.

The termination was made months after an audit found the facility lost $2.7 million in 2021 and 2022.
