Ask most residents what happens at a county event center, and they’ll probably name a rodeo or a livestock show. This November, the Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas, will give them a new answer.

The venue will host the inaugural Balloonapalooza GLO from Friday, Nov. 20, through Sunday, Nov. 22, 2026. Projected attendance is 38,000 to 45,000 across the three evenings, with crowds building from 8,000 to 10,000 on Friday to as many as 20,000 on Sunday. Visitors are expected from the Houston region and beyond.

For city and county leaders, the festival demonstrates what a large multi-purpose venue can accomplish when its management team books a distinctive, non-sporting event.

Three Nights of Hot Air Balloons at the Fort Bend Epicenter

Balloonapalooza GLO is a three-night outdoor festival concepted around a hot air balloon light show. Balloons need calm winds, which usually settle in during the early morning or evening, so the festival opens at 6 p.m. each night. As the sun goes down, the balloons will light up against the Texas sky while a carnival runs on the grounds outside.

Stunt Shows and Live Music Fill the Epicenter

Inside the Epicenter, guests can catch Thrill Extravaganza, a fast-paced live stunt production with multiple performances throughout the weekend. This separately ticketed show features extreme acts, including the Globe of Death, the Human Cannonball, and the Wheel of Destiny/Space Wheel. Each show includes a 20-minute intermission, when families can head to the floor for face painting and other activities. VIP ticket holders can meet the performers after the show.

On Sunday only, Adassa will perform live, followed by a limited-capacity meet-and-greet. Adassa voiced Dolores Madrigal in Disney’s Academy Award-winning film Encanto and sings on “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The weekend lineup also includes Tejano artist YEISI and regional Mexican and norteño artist Arturo Quintero, along with guest DJs and hosts on Saturday and Sunday.

Why a Balloon Festival at Fort Bend Epicenter?

A balloon festival puts underused acreage and evening hours to work, giving residents a fresh reason to visit a facility their tax dollars helped build.

Many sports venues are designed around a handful of anchor events, and they sit quiet in between. Each dark night is a night the building isn’t generating revenue or serving the community. Events like Balloonapalooza GLO use often-overlooked areas of a property, such as open grounds and nighttime hours, and turn them into a regional attraction.

General Manager Gus LeGrand sees the festival as a gathering point for all of Fort Bend County. “It’s a chance for the entire community to come together and have a great time,” he said. He also credits the local partners who have stepped up to help. “What makes it even more special is seeing local businesses and organizations get involved and truly make it a community-wide event.”

Visitor Spending Drives Local Economic Impact

When 38,000 or more people travel to one venue over a single weekend, their spending affects businesses beyond the venue. Out-of-town guests book hotel rooms and fill local restaurants before and after the show. In Texas, those overnight stays also generate hotel occupancy tax revenue, which communities can reinvest in tourism promotion and visitor-facing facilities.

The Epicenter team built the festival’s partnerships with that local economic driver in mind. Organizers are working with the promoter to bring area hotels on as sponsors, with support from city and county partners and other local businesses. The venue is in talks with KPRC 2, Houston’s NBC affiliate, to serve as the official media partner.

That statewide reach puts Fort Bend County in front of travelers who may never have considered spending a weekend in Rosenberg. If the first year delivers, many of them will come back for the second.

Plan a First-Year Event That Returns

A first-year event pays off when the venue team plans it as the first edition of a recurring event rather than a one-time booking. A new event asks a lot of a venue team, since talent, sponsors, media partners, and logistics must come together while the date is already on the calendar. Recurring events reward that extra work. Sponsors who see results in year one have a reason to renew, and hotels gain a predictable weekend they can plan and market around.

The Epicenter is approaching Balloonapalooza GLO with that long view in mind. LeGrand describes it as an evening the whole family can enjoy, and he hopes families “leave the Epicenter with some amazing memories and maybe even a new tradition they’ll look forward to every year.”

Pro tip for venue owners: Before you evaluate a new festival concept, map the hours and spaces your property rarely uses. Open grounds and evening time slots are often your strongest assets for outdoor destination events.

How SFC Helps Venues Book Events All Year

Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) partners with communities across the country to develop and manage sports and event facilities, and the Fort Bend Epicenter shows how that management approach plays out on the ground. Our venue teams build calendars that balance reliable anchor events with new concepts suited to each property and the community around it.

At the Epicenter, that meant bringing on a dedicated talent buyer and building sponsorships around local hotels and businesses, helping a public facility cover more operating costs through earned revenue, easing pressure on the general fund.

Whether your community owns a fairgrounds arena or a sports complex that goes unused on weeknights and off-season weekends, the same principle applies. The right events, booked by a team that knows how to promote them, can turn an underused asset into a destination.
