In 2017, parents and community members paid visit to the City of West Des Moines to propose the building of a new athletic complex. The idea came from the concerning shortage of local space for youth athletic teams/organizations to practice hockey and other sports. After investigation, the City recognized the need for improved quality athletic facilities to help increase year-round access for youth programs. To meet the demand, the City of West Des Moines, in partnership with local leaders and youth activity organizations, launched a public/private project that would later be known as the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.
SFA worked with the City and its partners to evaluate the conceptual design of the facility, make recommendations for design improvements, and create the financial forecast and economic impact projections for the facility.
