Grand Junction Sports Commission

Grand Junction, CO

Located between Denver and Salt Lake City, Grand Junction is the largest city in western Colorado and is known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation, making it an ideal spot for sports tourism. While the Grand Junction Sports Commission brought many events to the area while putting on their own, they needed a third party to help guide them on the path to success for the next few years.

The Grand Junction Sports Commission partnered with the Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) to develop a strategic plan, an economic impact calculator, and a pro forma to enhance the city’s sports tourism and to boost Grand Junction’s visibility and effectiveness in attracting events. In addition, the economic impact calculator helps the Sports Commission assess the financial contributions of past events, project future economic benefits, and compare competing event opportunities. This tool will guide decision-making and resource allocation as the city works to maximize its sports tourism potential.

After the advisory team provided a comprehensive strategic plan and economic impact calculator, the Grand Junction Sports Commission team re-engaged SFC to conduct a pro forma for potential new outdoor fields in the Matchett Park area.

By leveraging these strategic recommendations and financial tools, the Grand Junction Sports Commission is well-positioned to become a leading destination for sports events, driving increased sports tourism and economic growth.

Advisory Services Provided:

  • Strategic planning and facility recommendations, including outdoor turf flex fields
  • Organizational staffing structure and marketing budget development
  • Enhancement of existing partnerships and development of new collaborations
  • Pro forma with financial projections for facility development
