In 1938, citizens recognized the need for a sports and recreation center for Eugene. Civic Stadium, the historic grandstand in the heart of Eugene, became the site of many great sport and event memories. Civic Stadium hosted everything from Eugene Emeralds baseball games to non-sporting events such as concerts, weddings, and high school graduations. Unfortunately, the wooden grandstands were lost to fire, but with the help of the community and Eugene Civic Alliance, the new Civic Park strives to carry on the legacy of Civic Stadium as a place for events that anyone and everyone can enjoy.
The new facility in partnership with KIDSPORTS, an organization aimed at providing opportunities for kids to play sports, intends to expand this legacy by offering programs and events that bring the community together; people of any age or ability. The indoor/outdoor facility has a 30,000 square foot field house and event spaces with an outdoor full-length football field for outdoor games and events.
